The John Byrne Award is Scotland’s online creative arts competition and exhibition. Established in 2012 it is open to anyone living or studying in Scotland over 16 years old. They accept creative work in all disciplines, on any theme or topic.
All work is displayed in The John Byrne Award online gallery and prizes are awarded every quarter.
Unique among creative competitions, The John Byrne Award’s core purpose is to encourage thought and debate about the beliefs and ideas that drive our actions. John Byrne Award entries are therefore judged, not only on aesthetic or technical considerations, but on how well they provoke meaningful thought or discussion about their chosen topic.
They award prizes annually in February, and quarterly throughout the year. The quarterly prizes of £500 are awarded in May, August and November to the single best entry received in the previous quarter. Quarterly shortlists and winners are announced via our website, The John Byrne Award newsletter
