Ear Opener is a new series of free video masterclasses that demystifies the process of writing music, aimed at young people aged 14-20 and music educators.
Ear Opener uses accessible explanations of the tools people who write music use everyday, with honest discussion about the creative process.
Written and presented by award-winning composer Paul Clark, with insights and advice from artists from across the spectrum, including legendary producer Brian Eno, composer & saxophonist Cassie Kinoshi, Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien, TV & film composer Isobel Waller-Bridge and rapper Lowkey.
Ear Opener draws on over 15 years’ experience of working in secondary state schools and has been created in consultation with music teachers and students. It offers practical guidance on those technical aspects of composition that can seem daunting at first – like arrangement or melodic development.
Ear Opener is produced by Clod Ensemble – an award-winning performance company with charitable status, based in London. Clod Ensemble has a strong reputation for providing innovative community and education projects, for all ages, teachers, artists and healthcare professionals. Clod Ensemble is a winner of the Times Higher Award for Excellence and Innovation in the Arts.
