National Orchestra for All (NOFA) is a unique, mixed ability orchestra made up of 100 musicians from across all four countries of the UK. Teachers in schools, music services and a range of musical and non-musical organisations can nominate musicians to join our programme. NOFA is entirely free of charge for families, and so creates a highly inclusive mix of young musicians.
We are particularly looking to expand our reach in Scotland, where we currently work with four musicians. Our aim is to connect with more young Scottish musicians who would otherwise not be able to experience playing as part of an orchestra, due to disadvantages including disability, financial barriers and rural isolation.
The NOFA programme consists of orchestral residential courses, workshops and spectacular public performances. The 2017-2018 season runs for nine months from July 2017 to April 2018. This season of work will focus on the relationship between music and dance.
Members can be from anywhere across the UK, play any orchestral instrument at any standard – but must be aged 11-18 and meet one of the criteria outlined on our website to be eligible for membership.
Members of the 2017-2018 National Orchestra for All must attend:
Summer Course 2017 – a four-day residential course held at the University of Leeds from Saturday 29 July – Tuesday 1 August 2017, culminating in a spectacular concert to an audience of over 3000 at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on Tuesday 1 August 2017.
Winter Sessions 2017 – three regional weekends held in Edinburgh, York and London on the weekends of 18-19 November, 25-26 November and 2-3 December (locations TBC).
Spring Course 2018 – two-day residential course held on the weekend of 24-25 March 2018, with a performance on Sunday 25 March (location TBC).
If you know a young musician (or lots!) who would benefit greatly from our ensemble work, you can nominate them by simply filling out an online form on our website.
